Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R, C, Ref-Mahopac) is pleased to announce his legislation to support the revitalization of waterways (A10073) has been signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. This bill designates Journey’s End as an inland waterway and will better enable the town of Yorktown to pursue grants for the purpose of waterfront revitalization.

“We must give local governments every opportunity to address the needs to update their local waterways,” said Byrne “Clean water is essential to every community, and this designation will allow the community to compete for additional funding.”

“We are thankful to our state leaders for enacting this vital legislation. The Town of Yorktown has worked to redevelop, revitalize and protect several of our lakes, including our most recent reconstruction of retaining wall along Mohegan Lake designed to enhance water quality,” said Yorktown Supervisor Matt Slater. “The designation of Journey’s End Lake as an inland waterway will allow the town to continue its efforts of protecting and enhancing our local environment.”

Two other pieces of legislation Assemblyman Byrne brought forth have also been signed by the governor. One to authorize the town of Southeast in Putnam County to alienate certain lands used as parkland and dedicate certain other lands as parklands (A.10388). The other designates a portion of the state highway system as the “Putnam County Workers Memorial Bridge” (A07888).
