Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R, C, I, Ref-Mahopac) announced today that he has successfully provided the Mahopac Public Library with an additional $13,000 in state aid through New York state’s bullet aid program. The Mahopac Public Library announced it plans to use the aid to re-vitalize its first floor.

“Public libraries are an important fabric in our communities,” said Assemblyman Byrne. “They offer a welcoming environment for people of all ages to learn. While I attended graduate school, I was a frequent visitor of the Mahopac Library when I needed a quiet space to study. While I was there, I would see hundreds of local residents walk through the library doors each day, including parents with their young children, high school students working on a report, senior citizens and various other local residents enjoying all the wonderful amenities the Mahopac Public Library had to offer. I’m happy we were able to successfully return some of our tax dollars back to the community to assist the Mahopac Library with these updates so they continue to offer their wonderful services.”

“We truly appreciate the grant Assemblyman Byrne has provided for our library,” said Mahopac Public Library Director and CEO, Michele Capozzella. “Over 650 individuals walk through our door each day. They come to enjoy our youth programs, learn a new skill, read the news, or just relax and take in the view of Lake Mahopac. Assemblyman Byrne’s grant will give us the opportunity to enhance the experience of our wonderful library.”

Town of Carmel Councilman, Frank Lombardi added, “We truly appreciate the hard work of Assemblyman Byrne in fighting to bring this grant to one of, if not the most used public libraries in our county and surrounding counties. I know the additional resources will be used to benefit our students, seniors and all those who utilize our great library.”

Bullet Aid funding is provided through the New York state budget. The library re-vitalization is projected to be completed in the spring of 2018.
