Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (left) and Chief of Staff Matt Covucci (right) delivered holiday food drive donations to the Brewster Community Food Pantry on Thursday, December 14.

This week, Assemblyman Kevin Byrne and Sen. Terrence Murphy visited the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown and the Brewster Community Food Pantry to distribute donations collected during their holiday food drive. The extremely successful effort collected over five full boxes of non-perishable food items, which promise to greatly benefit several local families in need this winter.

The legislators’ food drive, which began on November 13, offered local residents the opportunity to embrace the spirit of the holiday season, and provided much needed support for two of the region’s foremost charitable pillars. Donations were collected at six locations, including the Mahopac Public Library, and Town Halls in Patterson, Putnam Valley, Brewster, Somers and Yorktown Heights.

“Organizations like the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown and the Brewster Community Food Pantry provide a crucially important service in our community, and I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to partner with them in their efforts this holiday season,” said Byrne. “The outpouring of generosity we’ve seen over the past month has been nothing short of incredible, and I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Sen. Murphy, our local partners and everyone who participated for making this food drive such an overwhelming success.”

“The holiday season is the time of year we celebrate our good fortune with friends and family. But we should never forget those who are less fortunate,” said Sen. Terrence Murphy. “Some of our neighbors may be struggling to put food on the table. It speaks volumes about the people in our community that they have stepped forward to contribute to this food drive. Their donations will go a long way to help families have a happier holiday season.”
