Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I,SAM,ROS-Mahopac) was recently named a 2020 Guardian of Small Business by the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB). The designation is awarded by the NFIB to elected officials who advocate, promote and protect small businesses. Of the 150 assembly members and 63 senators in the New York State Legislature, Byrne was only one of 11 to receive this designation.

“We know New York still has a tough road ahead,” said Byrne. “We must defeat this pandemic, restore our economy, and support our small businesses and entrepreneurs. I have faith in New Yorkers and our ability to rise to the challenge. I am grateful to have the support and partnership of the NFIB as we begin the process of rebuilding our state. Small businesses create jobs and strengthen communities.”

In a statement announcing the award, NFIB’s New York State Director Greg Biryla said, “COVID-19 and the resulting economic shutdowns have pushed many small businesses to the brink, threatening livelihoods, job creation, and the overall fabric of local economies. The legislators recognized as 2020 Guardians of Small Business have gone above and beyond to support small, independent businesses before the pandemic and amidst the unprecedented challenges brought forth by the pandemic.”
