BYRNE SPEAKS ON ASSEMBLY FLOOR IN SUPPORT OF NEW YORK’S VOLUNTEER FIRE SERVICE

Posted: May 4, 2017 in First Responders, In the News

Earlier this past month, I was honored to speak on the Assembly Floor in support of Assembly Resolution 388, declaring May 3rd Volunteer Firefighters’ Appreciation Day.

According to a recent state-wide study, the volunteer fire service saves taxpayers nearly 4 BILLION DOLLARS annually.  If volunteers fire departments were to become a paid service, property taxes across the state would go up an average of 27%.  In Putnam County, it is projected converting volunteers to a paid service could increase property taxes as high as 56% !  These brave men and women give their time selflessly, not because they want recognition, but because they enjoy helping others.  We owe them a great debt of gratitude.

Please take a moment to watch my comments, and thank these brave men and women for their selflessness, sacrifice and tireless work for the safety of our communities.
