Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,Ref-Mahopac) was sworn into office on January 1, 2019 by friend and former colleague, Senator Terrence Murphy, kicking off his second term representing the people of New York’s 94th Assembly District. The swearing in took place at Four Brothers Restaurant in Mahopac among family, friends, and fellow elected officials.

Senator Murphy and Assemblyman Byrne, whose districts overlapped, worked closely together in the state legislature, and successfully authored and passed eight pieces of legislation into law that protected the environment and addressed various local needs. “When you work as a team, you accomplish a lot more, and Kevin and I were the first legislators to represent the 40th Senate and 94th Assembly Districts as a team in over 20 years,” said Senator Murphy. Speaking of Assemblyman Byrne, Senator Murphy added, “I couldn’t be prouder to stand here and swear in my good friend, my colleague that I’ve had the privilege of working with over the past two years. I know he’s up for the challenge.”

Assemblyman Byrne thanked the Senator for swearing him in. Byrne added “It’s been an honor and privilege to serve the people we represent together. We got a lot of things done in what was a difficult political climate. We delivered top notch constituent services, honored and protected our veterans and first responders, and fought for everyday taxpayers against new onerous taxes and regulations.”

Looking back on his first term, Assemblyman Byrne focused on his commitment to make New York more affordable for all its residents. “When I first ran, I made a pledge that I would bring a new generation of leadership into the Assembly. I worked hard to deliver that, fighting for tax relief and for a limited government that protects everyone’s freedom so people feel welcome and have the ability to stay here in New York.” Moving forward to the 2019-20 session, Byrne added, “There are going to be a lot of changes in Albany and in our state. While this change will certainly create many challenges, I see change as an opportunity. I have been proud to be your voice in Albany, and I will use this opportunity to make that voice as loud as necessary to cut through the noise and rhetoric, to represent you effectively in Albany.”

Assemblyman Byrne has been appointed Vice Chair of the Assembly Minority Conference Steering Committee, making him the youngest member of his conference’s leadership team.  He will also serve as an active member of the Assembly’s Health, Insurance, Labor, Transportation, and Governmental Operations Committees. This is in addition to his continued role as Co-Chair of the Assembly Minority Task Force on Critical Infrastructure and Transportation.

Byrne is a lifelong resident of Putnam County where he lives with his wife, Briana and their rescued Treeing Walker Coonhound, Tracker. The 94th Assembly District is made up of the towns of Carmel, Patterson, Putnam Valley, Somers, Southeast and Yorktown.
