August 24, 2020 / Somers, NY – The Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) recently announced its decision to endorse two term Assemblyman Kevin Byrne as he seeks re-election to the state Assembly this November. This is the first time the CSEA has weighed in on the Assembly race since Byrne has held the office. The organization cited Byrne’s willingness to “stand with working people to make New York a better state” as part of the reason for their endorsement.

CSEA Southern Region President Anthony Adamo said “Assemblyman Kevin Byrne has consistently and repeatedly proven that he stands up for union families and a strong middle class, and in just this past term has voted for strong oversight of the Office of Mental Health, for increased protections against workplace violence for school district employees, and to ensure families of front-line responders to COVID-19 are taken care of in the event of a death due to their employment. We proudly endorse Kevin Byrne for another term in the NYS Assembly.”

Assemblyman Byrne thanked President Adamo and his members, “Since day one, I’ve worked diligently to work for and represent all the hard-working people of this district. CSEA members work on the front-lines in our states’ public hospitals, nursing homes, mental health care facilities, correctional facilities, health departments, emergency medical services, 911 dispatch, and numerous other fields. They worked long and hard to earn the benefits they and their families hold dear. I am honored to have their support and will continue to stand up to protect their rights, ensure their safety, and oppose dangerous proposals that would eliminate benefits they secured through years of dedicated service and contract negotiations- including their private health plans.”

CSEA is the largest affiliate union of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), which in turn is one of the largest affiliate unions of the international house of labor, the AFL-CIO.

The CSEA is the most recent of a long list of labor organizations to endorse Byrne’s campaign for re-election including: Utility Workers Union of North America 1-2, Westchester Putnam Building & Construction Trades, Teamsters No. 456, Local 21 Plumbers & Steamfitters, Boilermakers Local 5, LiUNA! NY, Affiliated Police Association of Westchester, Yonkers PBA, Law Enforcement Employees Benevolent Association, Westchester County Corrections Officers Benevolent Association, Westchester County Superior Corrections Officers Association, NYS Court Officers Association, Lake Mohegan Professional Firefighters I.A.F.F.
