Freshman legislator will be honored at organization’s State Convention in June
The New York State Young Republicans announced Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,I, Ref-Mahopac) as the organization’s 2017 Assembly Member of the Year on Thursday, April 20. In just his first year of legislative service, Byrne, a former chair of the Putnam County Young Republicans Club and currently the youngest member of the Assembly’s Republican Conference, has already established himself as a champion for future generations of New York State Republicans, demonstrating a focused commitment to the best interests of his constituents.
This honor comes on the heels of Byrne’s calls for Albany to reaffirm its commitment to transparent and ethical government practices following this year’s dysfunctional budget negotiations. This year, Byrne has already delivered on promises to support legislation that reduces the burden on New York’s taxpayers, creates new jobs and provides assistance for law enforcement and first responders. In addition to his legislative responsibilities, Byrne remains committed to bettering his community, currently serving as an active EMT and Firefighter in the Kent Volunteer Fire Department.
“I am truly humbled that the New York State Young Republicans have elected to honor me as Assembly Member of the Year,” said Byrne. “This award is particularly special to me because not only am I a fellow Young Republican, but, as a younger legislator, many of the policy decisions I make are measured by how proposed pieces of legislation can affect future generations of New Yorkers.
“With support from organizations like the Young Republicans, we will continue to build upon the base of the Republican Party in New York State as a ‘Big Tent’ party,” Byrne continued. “A Republican Party that represents all people and that fights for a more affordable state future generations can appreciate and be proud of!”
Founded in 1932, the New York State Young Republicans is a statewide association of clubs, as well as the oldest state chapter of the Young Republican National Federation. The organization’s stated mission is to support the Republican Party’s principles and objectives by offering members the opportunity to network and share their political views, learn about politics, volunteer in their communities and even receive campaign training.
“The New York State Young Republicans are thrilled to announce Kevin Byrne as our 2017 Assemblyman of the Year,” said Chairman Cory Custer. “Since his election in November, Kevin has brought a fresh perspective to Albany politics, demonstrating a profound commitment to his constituents, and a refreshing forward vision befitting of this honor. A former Young Republican Chair himself, we look forward to watching Kevin continue to fight for our best interests, and serve as an example for those of us hoping to follow in his footsteps.”
Assemblyman Byrne will be honored at the Young Republicans’ Statewide Conference in Putnam on June 3. For more information on this organization and the work they do, please visit their website.
