Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,Ref-Mahopac) awarded summer reading challenge certificates to school students at the Brewster Library on Monday, September 30.

Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R,C,Ref-Mahopac) is pleased to announce the success of his 2019 Summer Reading Challenge as he distributed over thirty certificates to children from both Westchester and Putnam counties on Monday, September 30 at the Brewster Library.

The program encourages children to read for at least 15 minutes every day for forty days during the summer to continue to develop their literacy skills during their school break. The New York State Education Department’s Division of Library Development provided a suggested reading list accessible here.

“It was exciting to congratulate so many young readers in our community,” said Assemblyman Byrne. “This is a fantastic program which helps us inspire the younger generation to get excited about reading and continuing their literacy development. I look forward to handing out even more certificates next year.”

“I was very happy that Assemblyman Byrne hosted the New York State’s Summer Reading Program this year! It is a great initiative that motivates children to maintain good scholastic habits while on summer break. My children really enjoyed partaking in the program and celebrating their achievements with Assemblyman Byrne at the Brewster Library,” said Kristin McConnell, whose children participated in the program and attended the event.
