What the Governor Forgot To Mention In His Budget Presentation

A statement from Assemblyman Kevin Byrne (R, C, Ref – Mahopac) in response to Governor Cuomo’s 2019 State of the State / Budget Presentation.

“I was encouraged to hear Governor Cuomo share our mutual priorities to make the property tax cap permanent, provide income tax relief to middle-class families, invest more in our state’s transportation system and park lands, and fighting the opioid epidemic. However, a tax cap without real mandate relief falls short of what we need for lasting property tax relief. While the governor presented some worthwhile proposals, it comes at a high price: approximately $175 billion.

“Governor Cuomo’s repeated gloating over total Democratic control of state government signaled his unfortunate unwillingness to reach across the aisle to solve New York’s problems.

I’ll be reviewing the budget proposal in detail and participating in our upcoming budget hearings.

I remain willing to partner with the governor and anyone else to deliver results for the hard-working people of New York.”
