Assemblyman Endorsed by Medical Society of the State of New York

(September 30, 2020) – At the September 17, 2020 meeting of the Medical Society of the State of New York Council, Assemblyman Kevin Byrne was included in a bipartisan list of candidates for Assembly who received the endorsement of the Medical Society of the State of New York Political Action Committee (MSSNY PAC). There are 150 Assembly Districts in the state of New York, of which there are many candidates.  Assemblyman Byrne was one of only ten Assembly candidates to receive the coveted endorsement from MSSNY PAC and the only Republican candidate to do so.

In the MSSNY PAC’s endorsement, the organization noted that Assemblyman Kevin Byrne “is ranking member of the Assembly Health Committee. He was a supporter of legislation that passed the Assembly that would prohibit mid-year prescription formulary changes (A.2969) and require state regulation of PBMs (A.2836). He also voted against legislation (A.2372) opposed by MSSNY, ultimately vetoed by the Governor, that would have changed loss allocation rules in cases where there are multiple defendants and one defendant settles. He also voted against legislation (A.2373) also opposed by MSSNY, vetoed by the Governor, that would have permitted collections directly against third party defendants who were not original parties to a lawsuit. He works closely with MSSNY staff and local physicians, including actively seeking MSSNY perspective on legislation prior to Committee meetings and Budget hearings.”

Assemblyman Byrne thanked the organization for standing with him and his campaign for re-election. Byrne added, “As someone who worked as a healthcare provider prior to elected office, I take great pride in working with our amazing healthcare professionals on shaping solid policy that supports public health.  The physicians who make up and support MSSNY have a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience which can be invaluable to policy makers. I thank them for their strong endorsement and look forward to continuing our work together in the years to come.’

The MSSNY PAC endorsement comes on the heels of Assemblyman Byrne already receiving over 30 endorsements from various police, business, healthcare, labor, and first responder organizations. More information about Assemblyman Byrne and his support may be viewed at www.byrne4putnam.com
